MarketplaceCop Uniform Home (sick) & Away? - Force of the United Kingdom Poaches Cops Down Under For years, British police officers have been emigrating to Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Now, a police force of the United Kingdom is now the tables of their fellow Antipodean advertising and direct them to return to the UK - and receive a £ 10,000 bonus.
British police officers have always been in great demand abroad, and are often given "immigration status of skilled workers" which means their immigration transition is smooth and they can live and work in countries like Australia, with the active help of Australian authorities. Australian figures show that former British police officers account for almost one in 11 of the force in Western Australia, with agents in the United Kingdom 480 among its 5,500 strong police force.
Now, a force Midlands denies. Tired of having their officers left for sunny climates, having been poached by the Australian Police, Leicestershire Police is running a campaign entitled "Homesick & Away? To encourage police officers trained in the United Kingdom to return Britain to work in the county.
People may wonder why anyone would leave the heat and relaxed lifestyle of Australia, but research has shown that moving away from the "green and pleasant land" has its drawbacks. Among the things missed by the emigrants, the top ten was:
1. The Sunday roast 2. Cadbury Chocolate 3. English Tea 4. Underwear Marks & Spencer 5. Football Banter (who really understands Aussie rules?) 6. Budget Holidays in Europe 7. Traditionally a white Christmas Day 8. Real Ale 9. The British accent 10. Pot
Another reason seems to be their love life. Mark Wickenden from uniform Dating, a dating site for emergency services, said that the Australian members are often former police officers of the United Kingdom or nurses, and they use the site to build relations in the United Kingdom before returning. "Many reasons they cite are to do with different attitudes towards the staff of emergency services in Australia. A policeman, who has since returned to the United Kingdom and married a nurse, said: "In the UK, we all have a laugh together and go to 999 parts - in Australia things are a bit of fun less.
Sgt Ed Des-Chanelle, who returned to Leicestershire after 18 months in New Zealand said: "It was funny how every time someone visits the United Kingdom, we would ask them to put all things that we missed the most - he has always been a shame they could not have brought the whole family! "
Chief Superintendent Geoff Feavyour Leicestershire Constabulary said: "Often when people feel homesick and want to move to go back, but due to financial constraints, they are not able to do so. Some people find the prospect more comfortable when they are offered assistance to return to the United Kingdom. We offer a relocation package of up to £ 10,000 to put towards the cost of travel. In return, we have a police officer fully trained and ready to go, and we think it is a good value. We're also drawn to the irony of turning the tables on our colleagues from the antipodes "
