Insulated Overalls

Insulated OverallsThings to Consider When Installing Attic Insulation

Having a good level of insulation from the attic of your house is certainly one of the most important in maintaining your energy costs low. attic insulation protects from the cold in winter, and also keeps the cool in the hot summer months. What is the factor of considerations to make your attic a well insulated?

Consider first the type of attic insulation you have. Many older houses have what is called as insulation batts. This is the kind that comes in large rolls and is usually pink or yellow. The insulation is laid out in the attic, usually between the wooden beams.

The other type of insulation is called blowing insulation. Blow-in insulation is usually installed by professional contractors, because they have the right equipment to do the job. Small pieces of insulation are mechanically the wind blew in the attic, the creation of the blanket on the floor of the attic. You will usually find this type of insulation in new homes.

There are of course good and evil is with batt or blow-in insulation. Batt insulation when installed correctly provides equal R-Factor in the attic. The R factor is a measure of the overall performance of the insulation, and is also called the thermal efficiency. It measures the resistance of heat flow. Batt insulation in the attic that is properly installed will give you a uniform R-Factor in the attic as a whole.

Otherwise, blow-in insulation in the attic is powered with a machine. Although it is very difficult to blow it in uniform in the attic together the result is a variable R-factor in this space. Until the installation is done carefully, and the minimum number necessary to inches is sitting on the floor of the attic, the insulation will do. This makes the issue a non-uniform R factor of all non-factors.

The money involved mats and blowing insulation is of course another factor to consider. Usually batt insulation is less expensive to buy, but your time is something to consider as well. Much time is needed to add insulation properly, or replace the existing insulation. When adding attic insulation, of course you need the right equipment, including appropriate clothing, a lot of time and patience.

Alternatively, you can always contract work a little more money and have a blow-in insulation jobs completed in a few hours without much trouble.
Stay tuned as I will now cover more about the differences between the mattress and blow into the attic insulation, and to consider other energy-saving tips for your attic.
