In May 1993, Jennifer Mercer was fresh out of the business school at Florida State University. She was faced with a problem. What business startup? Jennifer was short of funds and the economy at the time did not lend itself to start-ups. After several months of comprehensive research, Jennifer learned that his grandfather Lawrence retired from a company office supplies small Lake City, Florida. Lawrence wanted to sell his business, but could not, given economic conditions. After speaking with Jennifer, Lawrence offered to give the day to day business of working for her. If after one year Jennifer was successful, it could then take over all activities. Jennifer has accepted the offer and moved to Lake City.

Jennifer began to manage the affairs of his grandfather and soon discovered he was in a state of disarray. One of the most formidable is a large inventory of rubber stamps that Lawrence had been unable to sell. If Jennifer could find a way to sell the inventory, it would give the company a huge boost and free up space for other products. On a lark, Jennifer has also worked with his grandfather to produce treated wood stamps that bore the insignia of the University manifold. This idea beautifully executed and resulted in one third of its buffer stock sold. Jennifer has officially been on a roll rubber stamp. She went to night clubs in the same university cities and sold custom pre-inked stamps with phosphorescent glow in black ink. The stamps are ideal for marking the club's customers were old enough to drink alcohol.

Perhaps the biggest coup came when Jennifer has designed a solution to the sale of its date stamps. It took two cups of coffee on a Sunday morning to realize that supermarkets must date stamps to indicate the expiration dates on food. In fact, it has been mandated by law.
