Modest Clothing

Modest ClothingWhere can I find modest clothing for Orthodox Jewish women wear?

Hello. I'm considering converting to Orthodox Judaism and I understand that, in a word, I must keep my chest, elbows and knees covered, and no flashy colors. I was wondering if there were good places to find modest clothing such as stores, websites, etc. Thank you.

You can find modest clothes where you can find "normal" clothes. Just because you have to cover does not mean you have to sacrifice your personal style.

Where do you live? In some cities there are some neighborhoods that have stores Orthodox Jews only sells modest clothing, such as Borough Park and Flatbush in Brooklyn, New York or Stamford Hill, London. Otherwise, simply shop around the stores and lay eyes on what is modest, and only then decide what you want - but it certainly can be frustrating sometimes! In summer there is often a lot of skirts, and in winter, covered summits and t-shirts. You get used to it eventually.

I live in England and I know there are some stores that generally have smaller lines and then there are some stores away coz I find nothing there! It's a shame, coz some 50 years ago, women wear clothing in style and modest in any society!

Good luck!

flashy colors are very well among the many fully observant (orthodox) Jewish communities.

The best place to buy modest clothing, Israel - where there is a demand for something, you will find an offer for it.

Sorry if this is not quite useful ... you can just go to your synagogue and ask someone - it all depends on how relaxed a person you think some people are asking such a delicate thing.

btw, I thought you might enjoy the following link:
www.torahandisrael.com
It has resources that you will probably find interesting and which can help you convert. The main objective of the site is to help ppl learn Hebrew.

You might have to wait until you go to Israel for a trip, then buy clothes there.

Jewocity.com a lot of places in their repertoire of Jewish businesses - clothing section of a woman who only sell modest clothing.

It is the site I usually use to find stores Jews in particular in the area of New York.

I put a couple of good links below.

You can get nice stuff at Walmart and Target in U.S. stores. Many maxi skirts and dresses, turtlenecks, sweaters, and if modern Orthodox, tunics over jeans wear well (not tight, tight). Most stay away from orange day-glow and Gules (red = sexy dresses, I still have my past 18 years, can not throw and I will never a new 6!).

No problem with a couple of inches below the knee and sleeves 3 / 4 length, and up to the clavicle. My sister is a Noahite, was not converted to Judaism, but studies and learns with them as righteous, and Jewish women dress like nuns and some Muslims, but not the hijab.

Many fundamental Christians dress modestly too, some denominations require sleeves to the wrist. So you can go through many online sites for clothes, even Muslim women have many sites skirts, but their stuff that they wear clothes in private with other women are too revealing.

If you plan to convert notes will be refused on several occasions. The conversion is not necessary to be just like my sister, is a righteous or God-fear, see 1stCovenant.org. See Chabad.org the reasons not to convert and only if you can identify with the Jewish soul and every devout Jew, the feeling of pulling, creepy when another Jew is flashed across the pages of the media and really want to live a religious life where everything is dedicated to God and the world looks at you like a hawk, it is a blessing, really W.
